The
Overland Park
Coalition invites you to help clean up the Johnson Creek that flows through the
heart of the
Overland Park
neighborhood. We have partnered
with the Johnson Creek Watershed Council,
North
Clackamas
Parks
and Recreation District, and SOLV. Our goal is to clean up the Johnson
Creek from Luther St. to 45th.
We
need volunteers for the following tasks:
|
Team Leader - This person will be in charge of the team members. A cell phone will be required to contact the event coordinator.
|
Creek Clean-up - Volunteers in the creek will be required to wear adequate foot wear and gloves.
|
Team Support - Each team will need at least one vehicle that will provide support for the team. This persons vehicle will be transporting the trash collected so a pickup is the preferred vehicle. A cell phone will be required to contact the team leader and event coordinator.
|
First Aid - Each team will have at least one member with basic first aid experience. This volunteer may be involved with creek clean-up or a team support person.
Berry Bush Removal - One very special team will be doing weed removal. There are sites along the creek that are overgrown with berry bushes.
|
Gophers - People with vehicles needed to get supplies to teams. Cell phone and vehicle needed for this volunteer position.
Event site workers. We need volunteers to work the event site. Duties include volunteer registration, food servers, cook hamburgers and hot dogs, site clean up, and miscellaneous tasks. |
|
8 - 9 am: Volunteer sign-in at Mill Park. Each volunteer must sign in to participate in this event. Early registration is welcome. Due to safety concerns, children under 12, accompanied by parent, will only be allowed in the creek at Mill Park. Children 12 to 18 must have waiver signed by adult. Enjoy Starbucks coffee, Krispy Kreme doughnuts, and bagels and cream cheese from Fred Meyer.
9 - 9:30 am: Opening ceremony. Team assembled, captains will give safety talk.
|
9:30 am - 3 pm: The Clean-up. Teams will work on their section of the creek. We are planning 6 teams to cover the entire creek. Another team will do clean up work on the creek at Mill Park.
|
3 - 5 pm: Post Clean-up party at Mill Park. The Coalition will host a thank you party for the volunteers. Food sponsored by Fred Meyer. Enjoy live music by the Johnson Creek Brass. Enjoy the closing ceremony. |
